Maintenance of carpet should be by periodic vacuuming with a machine including a revolving brush/beater bar. Frequency depends on soiling conditions. A new carpet should be vacuumed two or three times a week.
A large doormat will reduce dirt from outside and therefore reduce soiling.
Avoid laying light coloured carpet near external doors.
